FAQ

THE IDAPTED OPPORTUNITY

Q: What exactly will I be doing?

A: As an Idapted Instructor, you will be guiding students through a series of exercises helping them practice their spoken English. Equipped with our proprietary language learning platform tools and training, you would use your native language skills to help students improve their English. A single training session for a student is called an “interaction” and a complete lesson consists of completing an interaction and the feedback associated with that interaction.

Q: Would I be doing telemarketing?

A: Idapted is not a telemarketing company. All the students you will be serving are language learners who want to improve their language skills and are enthusiastic about the opportunity to be taught by Idapted’s EQEnglish instructors.

Q: Who will I be talking to?

A: All the students you will be talking to will be young professionals, college students or even high school students who need to improve their oral English skills.

Q: Does this require any prior teaching experience?

A: Prior teaching experience is a plus. However, our platform and training program is designed to equip native speakers with the necessary skills to be effective Instructors without any prior background in education.

Q: Do I have to speak the student's native language?

A: No. Communication between the Instructor and student will be exclusively in English. Our students already have a working knowledge of English as taught in general education institutions.

Q: What will I be talking about?

A: There are several topics defined for students to choose. As soon as the session starts a screen with the chosen topic appears letting the Trainer know who the student is and what they are going to be talking about.

Q: Why do these students want to study English?

A: Our students have a variety of motivations for studying English, but the vast majority have the goal of someday studying, living or working abroad, in countries like the USA, England, Australia and Canada.

Q: Do I have a script to follow?

A: Instructors are not given a “script,” however there are prompts for each course which provide guidance and serve as the Instructor’s “lesson plan”. The degree to which Instructors are required to adhere to the prompts varies from course to course.

Q: How do I give the students feedback?

A: Our application allows you to give the student written feedback during the course of the interaction. You will give the student corrections to their grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, fluency and other helpful feedback. The student can see all of your feedback after the interaction.

Q: How many hours can I work?

A: As an Independent Contractor, you can work as many or as few hours as your schedule allows as long as the platform is open. Instructors who are more active on the platform will be considered for advancement more quickly than Instructors who only work occasionally.

Q: Are there minimum hours that an Instructor has to be available?

A: Scheduling time is strictly up to each Instructor. Instructors can provide services as little or as often as their lifestyle allows. The only minimum interaction requirement for Idapted Instructors is that at least one interaction is provided within a 30 day time period otherwise the account will be deactivated. We also ask that if an Instructor plans to be absent for a week or more, he or she should notify their Supervisor.

Q: Do all Instructors work the same number of sessions while available?

A: The number of sessions that an Instructor takes will vary based on a variety of factors. Instructors who "commit" to being available during peak hours of customer demand (early mornings and late night weekends) will have a much better opportunity to receive additional calls. Additionally, Idapted has a proprietary interaction routing system which routes calls based on, but not limited to, an Instructor’s past performance and schedule adherence.

Q: When is the heaviest interaction volume?

A: Interaction volumes vary based on the needs of our students however mornings and evenings tend to be the busiest.

Q: When can I start to work?

A: You will be able to start work immediately upon successfully completing the certification process and completing the final audition (a mock lesson with a student); upon passing the final audition you will be allowed to begin training students. All you need to do is log into the Instructor portal with your name and password and commit to shifts using the online schedule.

APPLICATION

Q: What is the recruitment process?

There are three different steps to the recruitment process:

1. APPLICATION

The application process is a very important step – it helps us determine your interest in starting your own business and is mandatory to begin certification. To apply please visit our “Become an Instructor” section on our website at www.idapted.com.

Before you begin your application, it is important to have a valid e-mail account set up.

After you have fully completed the online application, successful candidates will be asked for a telephone interview. Due to the high volume of applications that we receive, only successful candidates will be contacted. Please be reminded you need to fully complete the application including the voice audition before your application will be reviewed. Successful candidates will be contacted for an interview over email. There is no need to e-mail your resume to Idapted at any time.

2. CERTIFICATION

Only candidates who are accepted from the interview will be able to begin certification, confirmation of such status will be sent by email. Please look out for this email as your Instructor Portal user name and password will be included.

The certification modules will be shown as soon as you enter the Instructor Portal. There are 6 different modules and all of them need to be completed in order to be certified, you will have 7 days to complete your certification.

After completing all six modules, you will need to complete a qualifying interaction. The qualifying interaction is intended to give you a chance to put what you have learned in Certification to use with a live non-native speaker before taking shifts. You are expected to treat your qualifying interaction as you would an actual student interaction and give the student feedback and corrections. After your qualifying interaction you will be given feedback and, if necessary, the opportunity to complete another qualifying interaction before committing to shifts. If your qualifying interaction is satisfactory, you can begin work right away.

3. START WORK

After successfully completing the certification process you will be ready to start to work. You only need to log into the Instructor portal schedule and sign in for available shifts.
